The Chandigarh CBI has started an investigation against former Chandigarh SSP and Jalandhar Commissioner of Police (CP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal on corruption charges. A preliminary inquiry has been initiated into the matter. This inquiry has been initiated into allegations of corruption and misconduct while being SSP in Chandigarh.
It may be noted that the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Banwarilal Purohit has already termed Kuldeep Chahal's conduct as wrong. Purohit had issued a letter saying that Kuldeep Chahal was being removed from the post of SSP of Chandigarh due to misconduct.
Chahal was repatriated (cadre return) 10 months before the completion of his 3-year tenure in Chandigarh. His misconduct was cited as the reason behind this. Administrator BL Purohit had issued orders to relieve him on December 12 with immediate effect.
No posting was given in Punjab
After being repatriated from Chandigarh to Punjab, he was not posted anywhere for many days. After this, he was posted as the Commissioner of Police of Jalandhar on 21 January under the rank of DIG. During the Republic Day celebrations in Jalandhar on January 26, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit arrived as the chief guest. Before that Chahal had gone on casual leave for 2 days and did not attend the program.
Serious allegations against Chahal
According to sources, no action was taken despite the administrator Purohit removing Chahal on charges of misconduct. According to sources, one of the allegations against Chahal pertains to him personally getting the food courts vacated in large malls. At the same time, Chahal's role was also questionable in the case of the non-registration of an FIR in a sexual-harassment case against an influential person. He was a senior executive of a big shopping mall in Chandigarh. Apart from this, Chahal's role was also suspected in a case of illegal occupation of a house.
